A Halloween Reflection

A Halloween Reflection

Hey everyone — I know it’s been a minute since I’ve written. Don’t worry, Chasing the Wonder isn’t dead… it’s just gestating 😉

Today, my heart’s been stirred with a Halloween reflection for us. So join me — and ask yourself: which story I'm I living?

What Story Are You a Part Of?

On a day like today, we’re surrounded by stories. Costumes, candy, porch lights, laughter — and underneath it all, a story being told.

The question is what story are we a part of?

A story of life? Or a story of death?

If, like me, you believe in the person, life, and ministry of Jesus the Saviour, then you believe that God has come to save us from the brokenness of our sinful nature — that inward bend toward death, corruption, and the grave.

And here’s what we have to wrestle with — daily, sometimes minute by minute: just how far does this redemption reach?

Does it only touch our minds? Or does it reach into our family life, our work, our friendships — the small, ordinary places where we live and breathe?

The Light Enters In

I think of the story in Mark 1, when Jesus walked into Peter’s home and found his mother-in-law burning with fever. He took her by the hand, lifted her up — and she was restored.

In that simple moment, the light of Christ touched a dark place, and it became life again. Her strength returned. Joy — maybe even laughter — filled her heart. She was alive again. The house was filled with warmth once more.

That story is less about gender or duty and more about what happens when the life of Christ enters broken situations.

What was fractured begins to function again.

What was dull starts to shine.

Let Resurrection Become Your Rhythm

That’s the kind of restoration Jesus offers. His redemption doesn’t stop at forgiveness — it keeps moving, right into every place where decay or disorder has taken hold. It brings things back to life, back to their created purpose, back to goodness.

Paul said it like this:

“Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)

To believe in Jesus isn’t just to agree with Him — it’s to walk with Him.

To let resurrection become your rhythm.

What About Halloween?

And that means even on a day like Halloween — when the world around us rehearses a story of fear, death, and darkness — we walk differently.

Paul reminds us,

“You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)

To be a new creation today is to live as light.

Not in judgment or fear, but in quiet contrast.

To let your home, your words, your choices whisper another story — the story of the resurrection.

So let me ask you…

  1. When was the last time God spoke to you?
  2. When was the last time His Word cut through the noise and met you right where you needed it most?

That shows you how close He wants to be.

Not a distant Creator watching from afar, but a close Redeemer — one who steps right into the mess and makes it holy again.

Whether it’s in your workplace, your family, with your kids, or in the simple hellos to your neighbours — your relationship with God is meant to transform those places, to turn death into life.

So today, on October 31, 2025 — while the world tells its stories — what story are you a part of?

A story of life? Or a story of death?
